I send you warm greetings from the heart of Lake Bunyonyi.

My name is Alice Kyarimpa, and this health centre is more than a building — it is a story of memory, love, and deep hope. I was born and raised in southwestern Uganda, but my roots stretch directly into the waters and hills of Lake Bunyonyi, where my late mother, Florence Mubonehe, was born.

As a little girl, I remember crossing this lake in a small canoe with her — sometimes in calm, sometimes in storm. Those journeys shaped me. I saw not just the beauty of the lake, but the resilience of the people who lived here with so little, but gave so much.

Years later, I returned and saw how Lake Bunyonyi had changed. Visitors now arrive from all over the world. Land is being bought, and lodges and camps spring up everywhere. But even with all this growth, one painful truth remained: the people of Bunyonyi still had no nearby health centre. They still cross the same waters in emergencies — just like I did as a child — often without help.

It broke my heart.

And so I asked myself: "What if, instead of another resort, we built something that truly heals?"

That question led to the creation of the Florence Mubonehe Memorial Health Centre, in honor of my mother — a woman who gave everything for her family and community. This small clinic now serves mothers, children, elders, and travelers who need immediate care, health education, and dignity.

I know this is just a beginning. We still need medicine. We need solar power. We need more trained staff. We need boats for outreach. But we also need people — people like you — to stand with us.
